One Palm of Nectar

You sleep with me beneath,
Erect, asleep inside

You, floating; we, one wave

Beneath our firmament
Of currents, ride the curl,

The tantric cataract,
Into oblivion.
No dreams divide our eyes.

One palm of nectar, one
Of milk, and one by one

You feed the stars, as bite

By bite-so long this night!-
I serve my bliss to you.

      I BELIEVE THAT A YOUNG WOMAN
        IS STANDING IN A CIRCLE OF LIONS
        ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE SKY.

Such a cradle
I would be to you,
Therese, would hold your
Sparkling tongue an
Idol in my palm;
Alert to oracular flames,
Patchen's charmed
Lions spiral.

(and such an altar
is your voice, Therese,
that I, guttural, utter
absurdity's grunts
merely, and slobber
like a newborn, and
stutter, not quite
voiceless, but dumb.)

This is the sound,
Therese, of desperate ears
Crackling as they bend
Too near a sweet flicker;
This is not the sound
Of masturbation; nonetheless,
Through the loins of lions
A blood-flush shudders.

(my aria, Therese, the merest
scratch on frozen bark
of ashes in a snowstorm:
ashes from a red urn
shattered. Ash, alas! And
woe for the dangling!-
I would that I, too,
were a woman, for you!)
