Banana, Split
For Yee
Take one pair smoldering
almond
-shaped eyes
Lower them to twin mounds
of sweet,
Cool vanilla cream.
Melt with tongue.
Swirl one head of silky,
chocolate
-black hair
Over coconut-white stomach
En route to cherry-topped
Peach—-fuzzy, soft, and
juicy.
Eat slowly.
Wrap two impossibly strong
honey
-brown arms
Around delicate porcelain-skinned
dish,
Burying face in strawberry
-red hair.
Slowly insert spoon, and
savor
As colors, textures, and
flavors melt
One into the other
Yellow skin and white flesh
A perfect banana,

Kowtow
For Bao Bao
This is the Chinese way to
kowtow,
you told me.
You kneel on the ground,
like this, and touch
Your forehead to the floor
three times.
Bow with your hands together,
like praying.
Do it again, and again.
Everything in threes.
It’s not done much anymore—-too
old-fashioned. Only on
Formal occasions, like my
grandmother’s birthday.
I wonder if Grandma knows
the updated version—-
Me in your armchair, naked,
My legs over your shoulders,
You kneel on the ground,
like this,
Your forehead touching my
stomach,
Your tongue in my cunt,
my screams
Oh God, Oh God, Oh GOD,
like praying.
Do it again, and again.
